Compressed Gas Cylinder Storage and Management

Potential hazards associated with compressed gas cylinders include, but are not limited to:

  • Asphyxiation
  • Corrosion
  • Explosion
  • Flammability
  • High pressure

In a compressed gas cylinder storage area, remember to:

  • Attach valve cap when compressed gas cylinder is not in use
  • Proper Signage
  • Protect cylinder from external heat sources and passing/falling objects
  • Separate from incompatibles and isolate from highly flammable materials (>20 feet)
  • Store in well ventilated room
  • Cylinders shall be stored upright
  • Metal restraints at 1/3 and 2/3 height of cylinder
