Chemical Labeling Abbreviation List
For emergency response purposes, Santa Clara Fire Department does not allow chemical abbreviations to be used on container labels in-lieu of the full chemical name.
This applies to containers of hazardous and non-hazardous chemicals and wastes. Chemical names should be fully spelled out on the container label unless using a defined abbreviation posted in your lab on this Chemical Labeling Abbreviation Form.
Your lab can create and manage its own list of agreed-upon chemical abbreviations for use on container labels. Use SCU chemical container labels and hazardous waste labels supplied by your Lab Manager/Technician or EHS. Abbreviations must appear on this list to be used in your lab. This list must be on display near the lab entrance and kept current.
