Chemical Hazard Codes and Laboratory Signs

Chemical Hazard Codes

For emergency response and hazard communications, Material Safety Data Sheets (MSDSs) and many of the signs on campus incorporate the NFPA Diamond. The NFPA Diamond uses hazard rating codes for Health, Fire, Reactivity, and other Hazards. The link below contains a compilation of chemicals and their associated hazard codes:

Laboratory and Shop Signs

SCU Laboratories have been assessed for Health, Fire, Reactivity, and other Hazards. Based on these assessments, signs have been developed to communicate the potential hazards, indicate required personnel protective equipment, and provide emergency contact information. The signs include the NFPA Diamond (see link above for description).
