Elevators

The Utilities Department operates and maintains approximately 45 elevators that are located in buildings and residence halls around campus. These units range from completely modern state of the art, to vintage cars, and machines over 85 years old. Elevator types represented on campus include hydraulic, hole less hydraulic, roped hydraulic, overhead traction, basement traction, machine mounted traction, and unique basement drum mounted traction.

Malfunctioning Elevators

Problems concerning the elevators during regular business hours should be reported to the Facilities Department. Facilities will then immediately report the malfunction to an outside contractor for repair.

If the malfunction occurs after normal business hours (8am - 4:30pm Monday - Friday) , Campus Safety (408) 554-4441 should be notified and they will contact our contractors to take care of the situation immediately.

Persons Trapped in Malfunctioning Elevators

Persons trapped in a elevator is an emergency and should be reported to Campus Safety immediately. Campus Safety will take the lead role and contact our contractors or Santa Clara Fire Department if the situation warrants it.
