Campus Safety Programs

Santa Clara University's Campus Safety provides protection and security services to both the main campus and adjoining properties owned by the University. While our department and its personnel are responsible for ensuring that our campus remains as safe as possible, the primary responsibility for crime prevention and personal safety rests with each individual. By working together, we will continue to make SCU among the safest urban universities in the country.

As with other universities, many campus crimes are committed by members of the university community against each other, especially crimes related to property. Property crimes account for over 90 percent of all crime in our campus community. The most common types of crime at SCU are: theft of unattended property such as book bags, laptop computers, purses and briefcases, and theft or burglary from cars.

Operation ID

This nationally recognized program identifies valuables to deter theft and to aid in recovery. Campus Safety encourages the campus community to mark personal property and keep a record of the property in case it is stolen. Anyone wishing to mark their property can make an appointment to borrow an electric engraver and get copies of property inventory forms simply by leaving a refundable deposit.

Orientation Programs

Representatives of Campus Safety attend orientation to provide information and advice to newcomers to the university. Presentations are also conducted for parents, providing them the opportunity to become familiar with Campus Safety and to address concerns and questions.

Personal Safety Programs

Interested individuals and groups can arrange for a personal safety and security survey presented by a trained crime prevention officer. Call Crime Prevention at (408) 554-5082 for details.

Resident Manager and Advisor Security Training Program

Campus Safety provides a specialized security training program for Resident Managers and Advisors, which gives them the knowledge and tools necessary for them to conduct their own basic crime prevention discussions in their residence halls.

World Wide Web

As an extension of its crime prevention and community education efforts, Campus Safety maintains a site on the world wide web. Our web pages also provide valuable crime prevention information and links to other resources at SCU and on the internet.
